Why should one study Bhagavad-Gita as it is course online?
The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Shri Krishna, spoke the science of Bhagavad-Gita to His confidential devotee Arjuna in the middle of the battlefield of Kurukshetra around B.C 3102. The discussion took place just prior to the commencement of the great battle Mahabharata, Greater India religious war, which involved all the nations of this planet. The fighting was fierce and 640 million people were killed in 18 days. This date corresponds to 1700 years before Moses, 2500 years before Buddha, 3000 years before Jesus and 3800 years before Mohammed. Therefore, it should be clearly understood that the eternal knowledge of the Bhagavad-Gita has not been influenced by Buddhism, Christianity, the Hebrew faith, or Islam, as these religions did not exist at that time and were established millenniums later.
Lord Krishna also said to Arjuna in the Bhagavad-Gita that this ancient science of transcendence was spoken to the Sun God Vivaswan when he was on the sun planet 120,400,000 million years prior. From this statement of the Lord we can understand that the Science of Bhagavad-Gita is timeless and imperishable among humans and demigods alike.
This knowledge of life and death is very imperative for the human society. This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets and now it is revealed to everyone. It is the purest knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realization, it is the perfection of religion. It is everlasting, and it is joyfully performed. It also gives the great direction to live in this material world with peace and happiness.
Lord Krishna says in Bhagavad-Gita:
"A person in full consciousness of Me, knowing Me to be the ultimate beneficiary of all sacrifices and austerities, the Supreme Lord of all planets and demigods, and the benefactor and well-wisher of all living entities, attains peace from the pangs of material miseries."BG-5-29
"Those who are not faithful in this devotional service cannot attain Me, O conqueror of enemies. Therefore they return to the path of birth and death in this material world".BG-9-3
"By Me, in My unmanifested form, this entire universe is pervaded. All beings are in Me, but I am not in them."BG-9-4
"And yet everything that is created does not rest in Me. Behold My mystic opulence! Although I am the maintainer of all living entities and although I am everywhere, I am not a part of this cosmic manifestation, for My Self is the very source of creation."BG-9-5
"This material nature, which is one of My energies, is working under My direction, O son of Kunti, producing all moving and nonmoving beings. Under its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again."BG-9-10
In the above verses the Lord did not give anyone any other options to be free from the repeated birth and death and He is very clear and confident that He is the source of everything and whoever do not have faith in the process of His devotional service will fall down into the repeated birth and death.
Soon after the battle of Kurukshetra, as Krishna left the planet, the iron-age [Kali-yuga] commenced and gross materialism over-powered the people of earth. Things turned topsy-turvy and began malfunctioning as a result of the prominent bodily conception of life, sectarianism and so on. Due to this bodily concept of life the earth has developed into a civilization of animals fighting amongst themselves in a struggle for food, accommodation and other types of sense enjoyment.

THE BHAGAVAD GITA IS a battlefield dialogue between Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and Arjuna, His friend, devotee, and disciple. The dialogue consists of seven hundred verses, in which the Lord brings Arjuna from the dark bewilderment of material consciousness to the stage of serene and joyful enlightenment regarding everything-literally.
In this way, Krishna became the Charioteer of Arjuna, taking it upon Himself to drive the fabled bowman's chariot. This brings us up to the point at which The Bhagavad Gita begins, with the armies arrayed and ready for combat, and Dhritarashtra anxiously inquiring of his secretary Samjaya, "What did they do?"

Lakshmi said, “O, controller of all things. You are the goal of the meditation of great yogis. Nothing can go on without you. And yet You are separate. You are the cause of creation, maintenance and destruction of all the material universes. Kindly inform me about the workings of your wonderful energies, which are so attractive, that even You are lying here, meditating upon them.”
